Hello and welcome to our website. We are Ian
and Alison, we live in Doncaster and have loved owned and showed
Bull Terriers for the past 7 years.
We cant say that we are Breeders, as although
we have been with the Breed for seven years, we haven’t yet bred any
of our own Bullies, although, hopefully, this will be rectified in
the next couple of months, as if all goes to plan, our eldest girl
should have her first litter later this year.
We didn’t actually start out with Bull
Terriers. Our first dog together was actually a Doberman. When she
passed away, at 13 years old, we were devastated, and took on board
the advise ‘Don’t have another dog of the same breed, as you’ll
always try to compare them’, good advise I’m sure but the person had
obviously never been owned by a Bull Terrier.
So we began our search for another breed. We
attended the Leeds Championship Show at Harewood House to research
dogs of different breeds. As we wondered around we came to the Bull
Terrier Ring, and my heart just melted. I didn’t even realise at
the time that Bull Terriers came in any colour other than White, and
there sat the most beautiful Red and White Dog called Dennis (we
later found out that it was Activior Jack Frost), and that was the
start of what I believe will be a life long obsession! We left the
show and started to research the breed, looking at books, and
finally ringing a breeder I found on the Kennel Club Website. Not
to actually purchase a dog, which I did make clear, but to ask
questions and gain an understanding of the breed (I still owe Lesley
Lever thanks, as she was so patient and honest, and put us in touch
with the Breeder of our first Bull Terrier, Tracey Backhouse
(Ishaba)).
As luck would have it, Tracey had a litter due
and when they arrived we fell head over heels in love with a
stunning Red and White Boy, our Billy! It had never been our
intention to show, but with encouragement from our new friends in
the breed, we soon began to traverse the country at unearthly hours
in the morning to show our boy, and enjoyed every second of it!
Sadly our Billy was taken from us when he was
only five, much much too soon, but by then we had our white ‘lady’
Winnie. We had even made the decision to move house to accommodate
our growing ‘family’ of Bullies. Told you they are addictive. We
now have a red and white girl ‘Jezabel’ as well, and are of course
planning further additions to our brood.
Our interest in the breed has even led us both
to taking a number of Seminars (on Movement and Conformation, Hands
on Assessment and Stage 1 Breed Specific Judging. Ian will also
shortly be judging his first show!
As I mentioned before about the advise we
received about not getting another dog of the same breed because of
comparison. With this breed you just cannot compare them, they are
like no other breed, and no two are the same. They are as unique as
we are. They are the most frustrating, infuriating, stubborn, pig
headed, wonderful, loving, funny, intelligent (yes intelligent) dogs
in the world, and we cant imagine life without them.
So enjoy the site and keep posted, as we take
the next step into breeding…..
